Beyond Latin: A Conversation About Global Scripts
Own your culture, make the world a bigger place
The world doesn’t write in Latin alone.
It writes in Arabic, Bengali, Khmer, Japanese, Korean, Tamil, Thai—and in so many other scripts that are more than just letters. They are voices of identity, heritage, and creativity.
For over a decade, GRANSHAN has been the only international design competition fully dedicated to celebrating this richness. Now, we’re bringing the newly launched GRANSHAN Bloom Award to India through two intimate gatherings in Mumbai and Delhi.
The GRANSHAN Bloom Mixer
Join us for informal conversations with Boris Kochan and Veronika Burian—leaders in typography and cross-cultural design—as we explore what it means to design with equity, cultural respect, and a global perspective.
This isn’t a promotional roadshow or formal panel. It’s a curated space for designers, studios, educators, and cultural practitioners to meet, exchange ideas, and spark new conversations about the future of global design.
What to Expect
Two-Part Talk:
Part 1: Introduction to the GRANSHAN Bloom Award
Boris Kochan will share the story behind GRANSHAN and why the Bloom Award matters. Unlike other competitions, every submission is evaluated in its original script—by judges who speak the language, understand its typographic conventions, and interpret its cultural resonance. Scripts beyond Latin aren’t a side category here—they’re the core.
Part 2: Futura®100 — A Case Study in Multiscript Mastery
Veronika Burian will present Futura®100, developed by TypeTogether in partnership with Bauer Types. This ambitious project reimagines Paul Renner’s iconic typeface as a truly global system, spanning 23 writing systems and supporting languages spoken by over 90% of the world’s population. It’s a masterclass in culturally responsible multiscript design.
Open Networking:
Beyond the talks, there’s plenty of time for relaxed conversation—meeting fellow designers, exchanging ideas, and connecting with the GRANSHAN team.

Why This Matters
In a world where design conversations often center Latin scripts by default, GRANSHAN represents something different: a platform that puts global scripts at the center, not the margins.
The Bloom Award continues this mission by recognizing outstanding communication design across cultures and writing systems—evaluated by people who understand the nuances, conventions, and cultural weight of each script.
This is design equity in practice. This is what it looks like when we make the world a bigger place.
Join us in Mumbai or Delhi. Let’s meet, share ideas, and spark conversations that expand how we think about typography and cultural expression.
